How did you manage to rope him in for the titular part? Danny Denzongpa has been known to be quite choosy when it comes to doing roles these days.
I cried in school when this story was taught, as well as while watching the movie. While Kabuliwala (written in 1892) gave us enough reason to empathise with Tagoreâs hero, Bioscopewala doesnât allow us much insight into his unsettled disturbed and messy life. It’s a nice emotional story, which revolves around the relationship between the protagonist and the little girl. I was still waiting for interesting parts.
He was even nominated for Best Supporting Actor. For me, Bioscopewala (which I watched today) was about memories and how they work.
Her father (Adil Hussain) – named Robi Basu, in an affectionate nod to the original author – is a work-obsessed fashion photographer. I must also give credit to Gulzar sahib who wrote the lyrics, and for connecting me with Sandesh Shandilya. A major part of the film is set in Afghanistan. That film really moved me. When I was a kid, I had seen Bimal Roy’s Kabuliwala, in which Balraj Sahni played the protagonist.
